RAINSVILLE, Ala.  According to a release from Superintendent Jason Barnett: DeKalb County Schools will dismiss at 11:15 am on Monday, September 11, and will be closed on Tuesday, September 12, due to the potential for bad weather associated with Hurricane Irma.

I've been in contact with the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency, and the main concern is severe winds that could possibly be present during regular route hours as buses would be transporting students on curvy and, in some cases, mountainous roads.

I encourage you to stay safe and weather aware, Alabama Governor Ivey has declared a "state of emergency" for our statee; therefore any school hours missed in the interest of our students' safety are not required to be made up.

The earlier report of a full-day dismissal for both Monday AND Tuesday that was reported on Al.com was for DeKalb County, Georgia, and was mistakenly reported for DeKalb County, Alabama Schools.
