Tigers Tame the Hornets

IDER, Ala. — The Valley Head Tigers spoiled the Ider Hornets Homecoming, defeating the Hornets, 42-21 on Friday night. 

With 4:57 remaining in the first quarter, Jordan Burt scampered in from 1-yard out.  The extra point attempt failed.  With :50 remaining in the first, Ider blocked the punt attempt and recovered it in the endzone.  The kick by Benjamin Klausen was good, giving the Hornets the 7-6 advantage.

In the second, Jordan Burt made a 53-yard pass completion to Ian Blair.  The two-point conversion by Jordan Burt was good, giving the Tigers the 14-7 lead.  Ider answered back with a 69-yard pass completion from Matt Norman to Benjamin Kalusen.  Kalusen’s point after attempt was spot on, tying the score 14-14 going into the half. 

To start the third quarter, the Tigers scored on a 60-yard run by Jordan Burt.  The PAT failed. With 7:17 remaining in the third, Waylor Collins stampeded down the field for 73-yards.  The two-point conversion by Marlon Trinidad, gave the Tigers the 28-14, advantage.  With 4:41 left in the third, Burt came crashing in from 77 yards out.  The point after attempt is good, giving the Tigers the 35-14.  With :34 remaining in the third quarter, Burt made a 68-yard connection to Trinidad. The point after attempt gave the Tigers the 42-14 lead. 

The Tigers fumbled the ball with 9:00 remaining in the game. The Hornets took advantage of the mistake, scoring with 7:43 remaining in the game, on a 1-yard dash into the endzone by Norman,  making the final score 42-21.

Jordan Burt led the Valley Head Tigers with 274 yards on 13 carries. Waylon Collins had 137 yards on eight carries.

The Valley Head Tigers will travel to face Woodville.  The Ider Hornets will host Asbury.
