VALLEY HEAD, Ala — The Valley Head Tigers won their first Class 1A, Region 6 game on Friday, defeating the Gaylesville Trojans, 29-2.

With 3:33 remaining in the first quarter, Frank Hester fielded the punt on the Tigers 39-yard line and galloped down the field, virtually untouched to put points on the scoreboard first. Roger Kirby stampeded in for two, giving the Tigers the 8-0 advantage.

A Gaylesville facemask penalty in the second quarter, set the Tigers up in a scoring position.  Jordan Burt scored on a quarterback keeper with :47 remaining in the first half.  The Tigers went into the half, with a 14-0 lead.

After a series of fumbles, penalties and sacks to start the third quarter, the Trojans got on the board with a safety.  On the punt return,  Hester once again barreled his way down the field for the 70-yard  to score for Valley Head.  The Tigers went for two and Kirby once again stormed into the endzone.  With :33 remaining in the third quarter, Valley Head had the 22-2 lead.

With 4:42 remaining in the game, Kirby found his way into the endzone from 4-yards out. The extra point by Marlon Trinidad was good, sealing the Trojans fate, with a score of 29-2.

Valley Head increased their record to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in region play. The Tigers were named the Southern Torch Team of the Week for their efforts.

The Valley Head Tigers will travel to take on Woodville in region play, this Friday night.
