GERALDINE, Ala. — The Sardis Lions spoiled the Geraldine Bulldogs Homecoming on Friday night, defeating the Dogs 19-14.
The first quarter was scoreless despite an intense battle between the teams.
With 9:22 remaining in the first half, Geraldine put the first points on the board, after DJ Graham galloped down the field for 35 yards after a pick. Geraldine attempted an onside quick but failed, giving the Lions perfect field position. The Lions could not take advantage and gave the ball back on downs. After a Lions interception, with 6:00 remaining on the clock, the Lions slowly made their way down the field and tied the game 7-7, with 3:19 remaining in the first half.
Late in the third, Sardis once again intercepted the ball, and ran it in for the score. The point-after attempt failed but gave the Lions, the 13-7 advantage. In the last :50 of the third, Geraldine ran it in from 13-yards out for the score, taking the one point advantage over the Lions, 14-13.
With 10:52 remaining in the game, Sardis scored for the win, on a 18-yard touchdown. The final score of the game, was 19-14.
The Geraldine Bulldogs will host the Pisgah Eagles on Friday night.
