SYLVANIA, Ala. — Last week, Sylvania citizen Monty Darwin declared his candidacy for DeKalb County Board of Education, District 4. The seat is currently occupied by Board Member Matt Sharp, who has not yet officially declared his campaign for re-election.

Darwin released the following statement: Monty Darwin would like to announce his candidacy for the DeKalb County Board of Education District 4 today. Inspiring his campaign slogan, “Common Sense Makes Cents,” Darwin seeks to ensure that tax payer dollars are well spent, providing DeKalb students with the best resources and education possible.

A lifetime resident of DeKalb County, Darwin graduated from Sylvania High School and has remained an active part of the community throughout his life. For over 30 years, Monty has worked with his well-respected family-owned business Darwin & Son, Inc. Darwin and his wife, Pam, have two children, Heath and Luke Darwin. Heath attended Plainview High School, and Luke currently attends Sylvania High School.

“Our children should be our top priority because they are our future and they are depending on us,” Darwin said. “I want to see this school system thrive and benefit from the best resources and education available for our children.”

With his keen sense of business, Darwin also plans to ensure that the money from this community’s hard working taxpayers is well spent. An independent thinker with vision, ethics, strong skills and determination, he plans to work hard for every student, parent, teacher and resident of DeKalb County, if elected. He would greatly appreciate your support and vote in the upcoming election.
