UPDATE: Escaped work release inmate caught in Rome

CENTRE, Ala. — According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver: The work release inmate that left a construction site in Centre on Monday morning is now in custody in Floyd County, Georgia. Blair drove off from a job site in his employer's work truck.

Cherokee County deputies and Floyd County law enforcement spent the Monday afternoon and evening searching for the inmate, Jimmy Wayne Blair. Police in Rome arrested him around 11 pm last (Monday, October 16, 2017) night.

Blair is charged in Floyd County with theft of property, fugitive from justice, and probation violations.  He will be extradited back to Cherokee County on the new charges of theft of property and escape when a Georgia court releases him.  Sheriff Shaver said he appreciated the assistance from Floyd County law enforcement in the apprehension.
