Cedar Bluff man arrested for drugs after brief pursuit

CEDAR BLUFF, Ala. — According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, a Centre man was taken into custody after a brief pursuit on County Road 131 in Cedar Bluff.  

Investigator Michael Green attempted to stop the 2003 Nissan Altima, driven by Adam Kane Wright, when the suspect began to flee.  The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into a tree and a fence.  

Investigators located illegal drugs, including methamphetamine, and an illegal firearm in the vehicle. Wright, age 18, was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center on multiple charges including attempting to elude, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, possession of an altered firearm, possession of a firearm by a violent felon, criminal mischief, and other traffic violations.

On Monday (Dec. 26), also in Cherokee County, a burglar was caught in the act.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, a Georgia man was arrested on Monday, December 26, 2016, after a Sheriff’s Office investigator spotted the man taking items from a residence on U.S. Highway 411.

Investigator Brent Snead was passing by the residence just north of Centre when he observed the man loading the items into his car.  Snead confronted the suspect and confirmed he did not have permission to be there.

James Allen Johnson, 60, of Conley, Georgia, was arrested and charged with third degree burglary.  The suspect was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
