IDER, Ala.--The Ider Hornets defeated the Crossville Lions in a nail-biter game, 8-6, Saturday night.

Sometimes there are more important things on a field, than the scoreboard. When Caleb Causey of the Crossville Lions, was injured, something happened that impressed many.

Dylan Grant, of Ider, walked Causey to Crossville’s side and made sure he received the help he needed from the trainers.  He then ran back to his home side, to receive instructions from his Coach.

After an eight-play drive, the Ider Hornets put the first points on the board, with a 1-yard touchdown run by Luke Hannah, with 5:05 remaining in the first quarter.  The extra-point attempt failed.  After a back-and-forth between the teams in the second quarter, the Hornets went into the half with a 6-0 advantage over the Crossville Lions.

With 8:52 remaining in the third quarter, the Crossville Lions scored on a run by Steven Juan.  The Lions went for two but were stopped by the Hornets, tying the score to 6-6.  With 3:14 remaining in the third quarter,  Crossville attempted a punt putting the ball out the back of the endzone for a Hornet safety, giving Ider the 8-6 lead.

With 1:01 remaining in the game, the Hornets come up short and turn over on downs. Crossville started on their own 25.  With :14 remaining in the game, the Lions turned over the ball on downs.  Ider took a knee in victory formation, winning a hard-fought battle against the Lions.

For battling until the bitter end, the Ider Hornets received the Southern Torch Team of the Week. Ider will host Asbury on Friday.  Crossville will face the Collinsville Panthers on Saturday.
