Fyffe Excels at Cullman Classic

CULLMAN, Ala. — The Fyffe Red Devils track team participated in the Cullman Classic on Saturday, March 20. 

The meet was open to Class 1A to 7A with over 60 schools across the State of Alabama participating.

Fyffe had four (4) and one (1) boy compete. 

Sophomore Kirby Coots has been running since Fyffe started the program over 3 years ago. She ran the 100, 200, 400 and did the long jump. Coots jumped 14'9.5" beating her last week's performance of 14' where she captured the school record. She also placed 8th in the meet out of 66 jumpers. She ran the 100 in 14.21 sec placed 24th out of 96, ran the 200 in 29.14 and placed 21st out of 90 and ran the 400 in 1:10.43 and placed 38 out of 91.

Ady Bailey did the long jump for only the second time and jumped 13'11.75" beating her previous mark of 13'2". She placed 14th out of 66. She ran the 100 in 14.25 and placed 25th out of 96. She ran the 200 in 29.18 placing 24th out of 90. She ran the 400 in 1:07.50 placing 22nd out of 91.

Jacey "Page" Green did the long jump and jumped 11'09"placing 44 out of 66. She ran the 100 in 14.87 placing 46 out of 96. She ran the 200 in 31.03 placing 48 out of 90. She ran the 400 in 1:13.71 placing 55 out of 91.

Sadie Smith, Fyffe's new comer, has only practiced a few times. She threw the discus and shot put.  She threw the discus 47'03"and the shot put 19'3.5". We are looking forward to seeing how well she can do.

The only boy, Dawson McCollum,  ran the 1600 in 5:21.22 he placed 71 out of 142. He set the new school record last week with a time of 5:18.76. He ran the 800 for the first time outdoor with a time of 2:32.50 breaking the school record. He placed 87 out of 146.

"I am super excited to see how this small group of kids continues to strive to succeed no matter how big the challenges and schools are," said Coach Eric Magnusson.
