The 98th State Championships got underway at Gulf Shores Sports Complex Friday with a delayed start due to weather conditions. The wait was well worth it.

Scottsboro’s Evan Hill crossed the finish line in 9:01.73 to win the 1,600-meter race in Class 6A – breaking the previous state-meet record set (9:01.75) in 2021 by former Scottsboro standout Cooper Atkins by 2/100ths of a second.
