Sylvania Girls Head to State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. —The Sylvania Lady Rams (25-8) defeated the Plainview Lady Bears (26-7), 54-53 at the Class 3A Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Northeast Finals at Jacksonville State University on Tuesday. 

The Lady Rams will make their first Final Four appearance since the 2001-2002 season. 

The regular-season matchup between the two teams had been neck and neck, exactly how the Regional Final game turned out. 

Sylvania shot for 50 percent from the field and behind the arc in the first half of the game. They took the 26-20 lead into the half. Sylvania led by up to 12 points in the second half of the game.  The Lady Rams took their biggest lead of the night in the third quarter, going up 38-26.  Plainview rallied to take the lead on a 3-pointer by Lauren Jimmerson with only :51 remaining.  Leianna Currie scored a layup for the Lady Rams to narrow the Bear lead to one point with only 23 seconds left.  After three offensive rebounds, Anna Farmers scored the go-ahead point for the Rams. 

Leianna Currie and Ambriel Stopyal led the Lady Rams scoring 14 points. Kenadie Lee added 13 points.  Anna Farmer had nine rebounds for the game.

For Plainview, Lauren Jimmerson led the team with 15 points and five rebounds.  Halle Brown finished with 11 points. 

The Sylvania Rams will play in the final four on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham.  The Lady Rams will face the winner of the Hillcrest-Evergreen vs. T.R. Miller game that is scheduled to play Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
