*UPDATE* Body of Missing Swimmer Recovered

POWELL COMMUNITY, Ala.-- On Sunday, June 21 around 7:00 p.m, emergency personnel in DeKalb and Jackson Counties were advised of a missing swimmer in the Powell Community. Officials were called to Matheny’s Bridge, on the Jackson/Dekalb line, for a swimmer in distress.

Monday afternoon, DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Deputy Director Michael Posey confirmed that the rescue had transitioned to a recovery effort. 

Around 2 p.m. Monday afternoon,  DeKalb County EMA Director Anthony Clifton confirmed the man’s body was recovered.  

The identity of the man was confirmed by the DeKalb County Coroner’s Officer as Donald Criag Stinnett, age 49.

This was a joint effort between DeKalb and Jackson Sheriff's Office, DeKalb and Jackson County Emergency Management Agencies along with the Statewide EMA team,  Fort Payne Fire Departments, Fisher Rescue Squad and their Dive Team and the Scottsboro/Jackson County Rescue Squad.
