FORT PAYNE, Ala.- The Fort Payne City Council held a Special Called meeting on Tuesday, September 20..  The purpose of the meeting  was to approve a contract with Warner Athletic for the renovation of the City’s existing sports complex.

The total cost of the project is expected to be approximately $7M which will include turf,  new lights, and fencing.

Warner Athletic and the Council discussed  going into a contract to  “groom the fields”.  Studies have shown that a machine similar to a street sweeper could increase the life expectancy of the field, which is usually 8-10 years, with sections being replaced as needed.

The next phase of the renovation project is the soccer fields.   The work will begin after the current soccer season is over.

Softball field renovations will begin after soccer renovations are complete. The majority of the turf product is supposed to be available by the end of October.  The biggest delay that is foreseen in the complex renovation is lighting due to the supply chain being limited.

After a discussion with Warner Athletic, the council voted to approve the contract for the existing sports complex renovations.
