FORT PAYNE, Ala. — Last week, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office announced the passing of retired deputy Rene Ramos.

Ramos served in the department for over 15 years in several different positions including patrol deputy, school resource officer, investigations, and chief jailer.

"Deputy Ramos was definitely an outstanding example of a professional Law Enforcement figure.  I have many great memories of Deputy Ramos and so do many others at our office that will live on forever," said DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden. " Not only did he serve DeKalb County with true professionalism and patriotism, but he also serves this county in the same manner. Men like this nowadays are hard to come by.  I’m glad the Lord Blessed me and allowed me to know such a fine man!"

The thoughts and prayers of the entire Sheriff's Office are with Ramos's family and friends.
