Cornerstone Starts Season Strong

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Cornerstone Eagles started the season out strong with 35-0 shutout of the East Central Patriots. 

The Eagles outscored their opponent 21-7 in the first quarter. Jack McGullion scored the first points of the game on 7-yard stampede into the endzone. The point-after attempt by Phillip Grizzard was good giving the Eagles the 7-0 advantage. McGullion came chasing into the endzone from 10-yards out to advance the Eagle lead. The PAT by Grizzard gave the Eagles the 14-0 lead.  Israel Phillips bulldozed his way into the endzone from 34 yards out, to score once again for the Eagles. The PAT attempt by Grizzard put the Eagles in the driving seat with a score of 21-0.   

In the second quarter, Konner Fortner charged into the endzone from one-yard out. The kick by Grizzard gave the Eagles the 27-0 lead. Matt Johnson recovered a fumble and ran the ball back 35 yards for the Cornerstone score. The PAT was good, making the score 35-0.

Due to weather, the game was called with 7:11 remaining in the second quarter. The Cornerstone Eagles cashed in their first win of the season with a final score of 35-0.

The Cornerstone Eagles will have a bye week and will return on September 4, hosting Jacksonville Christian.
