FYFFE, Ala. — The number one ranked, Class 2A Fyffe Red Devils defeated the Ohatchee Indians, 21-13 on Friday night.

Fans were on the edge of their seat most of the night as the Fyffe Red Devils proved once again that are truly a force to be reckoned with.

To start the game, Ike Rowell took the opening kickoff and ran it back to the 5-yard line. With 10:34 remaining in the first, Zach Pyron scored on a quarterback keeper.  The extra point attempt failed but gave the Red Devils the jumpstart on scoring. With 2:38 remaining in the first, Ohatchee slipped into the endzone from 2-yards out. The extra point attempt was good and the Indians took the 7-6 lead.

After a battle between the two teams, Eli Benefield capitalized on a Indian fumble with :46 remaining in the second quarter, giving the Red Devils perfect field position. Pyron dashed down the field for eight yards, when the call against Ohatchee for defensive holding was made, giving the Red Devils first-and-goal. After Ohatchee defense held the Red Devils on three plays, Fyffe went for it on fourth-and-goal. Payton Stoner scored with :01 remaining in the first half. Fyffe went for two but were unsuccessful, carrying the 12-7 lead into the half.

The third quarter was a battle between two teams who were desperate to advance to the semifinals.  Fyffe’s defense was too strong for the Indians, forcing a three-and-out. Pyron hustled down the field and set up an Ike Rowell score with 7:53 remaining in the third. The extra point attempt was blocked but the Red Devils had the 18-7 lead. Stoner, stepped up big, with a interception. Jake Stone rambled down the field before a unsportsmanlike conduct call was made against Ohatchee. The Red Devils were unable to profit from the call and turned the ball back over on downs. The Indians scored on a 76-yard touchdown run to narrow the Red Devil lead to 18-13 at the end of the third.

Ike Rowell intercepted the ball to start the fourth quarter out with a bang but the touchdown was called back but set up good field position for a Brody Dalton field goal with 4:20 remaining in the game to make the final score, 21-13.

Fyffe (13-0) will host the Aliceville Yellow Jackets (11-2) on Friday night. Aliceville is no stranger to the Fyffe Red Devils.  They shutout the Yellow Jackets, 28-0  to win the 2016 Class 2A State Championship.
