FORT PAYNE, ALA -- For more than 40 years Dekalb Animal Hospital has served the community under the guidance of Dr. Joe McNew. Since August, Dr. Jessica Jones is now the sole owner after practicing at Dekalb Animal Hospital since March of 2016. Dekalb Animal Hospital is a fully staffed three-doctor practice, with Dr. Jones’ associates Dr. Linda Galbraith and Dr. Taylor Ogle now joining her.

Dr. Jones is originally from and grew up in Mentone, Alabama. She attended Fort Payne High School and went to Auburn University on an Equestrian Scholarship for her undergraduate degree. She completed her Veterinarian Degree at Ross University and completed her clinical year at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Jones said her clinic strives to make sure their client’s pets have the best standard of care possible. “We love to encourage pet owners to practice preventative care to help ensure a long healthy life with their beloved pet,” said Dr. Jones.

The animal hospital features three exam rooms, a treatment room, and a surgical suite. Diagnostically the clinic offers in-house x-rays, ultrasound, and cold laser, and has a dental machine to perform prophylactic dental care. Boarding and housing for dogs and cats are also available.

While having a pet’s teeth cleaned will reduce the possibility of dental disease, it also helps to prevent other serious health conditions. Poor dental care in animals is linked to diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, and may cause the animal’s immune system to lack the ability to fight off infections.

The clinic hosts an annual Halloween party for the pets and owners and client appreciation events. “I love to participate in and host community events,” said Dr. Jones. “I also enjoy giving back to the community by supporting local schools and hosting giveaways during holidays throughout the year.”

“Dekalb Animal Hospital will continue to always put the animals first, continue to support the community, and always want our clients and patients to feel like family,” said Dr. Jones. “I look forward to carrying on Dr McNew’s amazing practice he founded for many years to come.”
