FORT PAYNE, Ala.-- DeKalb County is under a no-burn ban that will last until October.

According to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), no vegetative or land-clearing burning is allowed from May 1 to October 31 of each year in the following counties: Baldwin, Mobile, DeKalb, Montgomery, Etowah, Morgan, Jefferson, Shelby, Lawrence, Russell, Madison, and Talladega.

The no-burn order is in effect to preserve air quality and reduce the formation of ground-level ozone. The no-burn ban prohibits the open burning of wood, tree trimmings, brush, and debris generated by land clearing and construction.

This ban does not apply to outdoor fireplaces and campfires unless prohibited for drought and safety reasons.
