Commission Approves Six Water Projects

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala.-- The DeKalb County Commission adopted a resolution to allocate funds for water projects in DeKalb County earlier this year. 

At Tuesday’s DeKalb County Commission meeting, six water projects were approved, as part of the American Rescue Plan (ARPA), in Districts 2, 3, and 4. 

In District 2:

  • NE Water to install a 3” PVC waterline on CR 396, with a commitment by DeKalb County,  up to $100,000.
  • NE Water to install a 3” water line to supply current residents who rely on private wells for drinking water in the Red Bud community. This is a partnership with Marshall County with DeKalb County committing up to $300,000.

In District 3:

  • NE Water to install pressure-reducing valve pits with meters along CR 89 and Hwy 176 to serve as an alternative water supply to residents of Lookout Mountain south of FP with DeKalb County committing up to $250,000.
  • The Town of Collinsville to install PVC water pipe to replace 6” cast iron water lines on Raines Court, McClain St. First Avenue, Davis Street, Center Street, and 2”  cast iron water line at Ryan Subdivision and replace asbestos cement pipe along Hwy 11 with 8” PVC Pipe. DeKalb County to commit up to $400,000 district and $100,000 Countywide. 

District 4:

  • NE Water to replace 3” and 2.5” waterline with 6” PVC Pipe on CR 180 with a commitment by the County for $250,000.
  • NE Water to install approximately 250lf of water line at Hwy 35 to bore road to improve water pressure and prevent contamination to approximately 1,400 residents with a commitment by DeKalb County in the amount of $1,500,000.

County Administrator Matt Sharp stated that the six approved water projects are only phase one of several projects that the County wishes to complete.  

“Out total commitment is $5 million from the ARPA funds toward these projects,” stated Sharp.
