ALDOT Reminds Motorists to Drive Safely this Memorial Day Weekend

Announce No Temporary Lane Closures

(Montgomery, Ala.) – Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer and, with that, higher traffic volumes on Alabama’s roadways. For the safety of the traveling public along with construction and maintenance workers, the Alabama Department of Transportation announces no temporary lane closures will take place on Alabama interstates from Friday, May 26 at 12:00 p.m. to Monday, May 29 at 11:59 p.m.

This weekend, ALDOT is encouraging motorists to plan for an increase in traffic and to allow extra time to reach their destination.

ALDOT also offers these tips to stay safe while traveling:

  • Don’t Drive Impaired: Never get behind the wheel of a car under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other substances that impair judgement.
  • Eliminate Distractions: Stay focused on the road and avoid distractions that take your attention away from driving. A momentary distraction can have severe consequences.
  • Slow Down: Speeding increases the likelihood of serious or fatal accidents and reduces the driver’s ability to react to unexpected situations.

Highway Travel Planning Tool

Motorists planning their holiday travel route can find Alabama traffic and road condition information, including live traffic camera feeds at www.ALGOtraffic.com or by downloading the ALGO Traffic app. ALDOT asks motorists to use ALGO Traffic responsibly. Drivers should never text, tweet, or use a mobile device while operating a vehicle.
