UPDATE: Fire Marshal reports on FP Fire

By Staff Reports

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — From Fort Payne Fire Marshal Stacy Smith: On Friday, February 8 at 4:38pm, Fort Payne Fire units were dispatched to a structure fire in the area of 3rd Street and Sanders Avenue NE. Fire stations 1, 2 and 4 responded with three Pumpers, one Rescue, one Aerial and one support vehicle.

First arriving units advised heavy smoke and fire was visible at the location of the Fort Payne Public Works building. An “ALL CALL” was made to all off duty fire personnel which provided 19 additional Fire Fighters. Mutual aid was also requested to Rainsville Fire Department and the DeKalb County Association of Fire Departments. The fire was brought under control in approximately an hour and a half. Fire personnel remained on scene for several hours working on “hot spots.”

The Fort Payne Fire Department would like to thank the DeKalb County Association of Fire Departments and the following departments: Adamsburg, Blake, Collinsville, Dogtown, Fyffe, Geraldine, Mentone, Rainsville, Shiloh, Sylvania and Valley Head. These departments provided numerous fire apparatuses and 45 additional personnel on scene.

We would also like to thank the following agencies: DC Gas, DeKalb Ambulance Service, DeKalb EMA, Fort Payne Police Department, Fort Payne Improvement Authority and the Fort Payne Water Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
