Safety Checkpoint Snags Several Arrests

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — According to Rainsville Police Chief Michael Edmondson: Over the weekend, members of the Rainsville, Powell, and Sylvania police departments, along with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, held a safety checkpoint at the intersection of Carlyle Road and County Road 102.

During the checkpoint, officers arrested David Christopher Havard of Sylvania and Samuel Malachi McMullins of Dutton. Havard was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, while McMullins was taken in for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and existing warrants with the Rainsville Police Department.

During a search of Havard and McMullins's vehicles, officers found synthetic marijuana (spice), methamphetamine, pipes, and other tools used for the storing and transferring of drugs.

Chief Edmondson praised his officers for their hard work and initiative to make Rainsville a safer city. Edmondson also thanked Sylvania and Powell police department officers and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
