Suspects arrested in Pisgah kidnapping

FORT PAYNE, Ala. From the Office of DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden: Thursday night (June 13, 2019) an adult male was kidnapped by two suspects from the Pisgah area of Jackson County around midnight. The victim was transported to a residence on Moses Drive in Henagar.

After being assaulted and tied up, the victim was able to escape and made contact with a neighbor who called 911.

On Friday, a search warrant was obtained for the residence. Investigators with the DeKalb and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office found Methamphetamine, Marijuana, Prescription Medications, and Drug Paraphernalia during the search.

One of the suspects, Mark Alan Byers (51 of Henagar), was arrested and charged with Kidnapping, Assault 2nd Degree, and Burglary in Jackson County due to the crime occurring in Pisgah. In DeKalb County, Byers faces additional charges of Possession of Controlled Substance (2x), Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Byers is currently being held in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

Over the weekend, a second suspect was arrested in Georgia regarding the case.

Jerry Clayton Grider (43 of Fort Payne) was taken into custody and transported to the Jackson County Detention Center. Grider is also facing charges of Kidnapping, Assault 2nd Degree, and Burglary. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
