DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. — Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced that the mask mandate for the State of Alabama would come to an end on April 9.

With the expanded availability of COVID-19 shots for Alabama citizens, people are starting to venture out of their homes and enjoy more activities. There is a feeling in the air of normalcy.  Last year at this time, we were wondering if normalcy would ever make its appearance, again.

A prime example of such was the resurrection of the Third Saturday Downtown in Fort Payne.

The event committee paid tribute to Don Dingler with a marquee at the DeKalb Theatre. Dingler passed away on Christmas Day from complications of  Covid-19. Don and his wife, Donna were always active at the Third Saturday events.

The streets of Fort Payne were lined with visitors enjoying antique cars and fellowship.

The event will be every Third Saturday throughout the summer.

Also on Saturday, Willow Tree owners, Cory and Kendra Caldwell held Willow Fest in downtown Henagar. The objective of Willow Fest was to give small business owners, whose sales had suffered throughout the pandemic, a financial boost. The small town of Henagar was abuzz with visitors looking for good food and good bargains.

Visitors were also entertained by rides on Caldwell’s vintage motorcycle, complete with a sidecar.

The next Willow Fest event will be held on October 23, 2021.

As the weather gets warmer, get out and enjoy our new normal.
