Rams win the Sand Mountain Superbowl

RAINSVILLE, Ala.-- The Sylvania Rams defeated the Plainview Bears 49-31 in what is known as the Sand Mountain Superbowl. 

The Plainview Bears fumbled on their first possession. With 10:23 remaining in the first quarter, Brody Smith connected with Zac Anderon for the 14-yard touchdown reception. The extra-point attempt by Clint Pierce was good to take the 7-0 lead.

With 8:12 remaining in the first half, the Rams scored on a 34-pass connection by Smith to Sawyer Hughes. The PAT by Pierce was successful, to go up 14-0 over the Bears. With 5:22 remaining in the second quarter, Smith connected again with Hughes on a 50-yard pass to take the 21-0 lead over the Bears. With 2:22 remaining in the first half, Dylan McCullough scored for the Bears on a 1-yard scamper into the endzone. The PAT was good by Aurturo Medrano to make the score 21-7. With 1:17  remaining in the first half, Smith made the 36-yard pass to Hughes for another Ram touchdown before the half. The Rams took the 28-7 lead into intermission.

The Sylvania Rams scored on a 9-yard stampede into the endzone by Preston Bates with 9:06 remaining in the third quarter. The PAT was good to take the 35-7 lead over the Bears. With 3:51 remaining in the third quarter, Smith connected on a 10-yard pass to Hughes for the Ram touchdown. The PAT gave the Rams the 42-7 advantage over the Bears. 

The Bears started the fourth quarter by scoring on a 1-yard rumble into the endzone by Dylan McCullough. The two-point conversion was good by McCullough to make the score 42-15 with 12:00 remaining in the game. With 7:14 remaining in the game, Smith connected to Anderson with a 4-yard pass for the Ram touchdown. The successful PAT gave the Rams the 49-15 lead. Sam Crowell crashed into the endzone from 1-yard out for the Bear touchdown. The successful two-point conversion by Crowell made the score 49-23. Noah White stampeded his way down the field for 16-yards for the Bear touchdown. The two-point conversion by McCullough narrowed the Ram lead and made the final score for the night 49-31. 

The Sylvania Rams racked up 487 total yards for the night. Brody Smith went 14-for-18 passing for a total of 235 yards and six touchdowns and was named the Southern Torch Player of the Week for his standout performance. Sawyer Hughes had 6 receptions for a total of 146 yards and 4 touchdowns. Zac Anderson had 6 receptions for a total of 81 yards and 2 touchdowns. Styles Hughes had 14 carries and 117 yards.

The Plainview Bears had 352 total yards for the night. Noah White went 6-for-15 passing for a total of 158 yards. He also led the Bears with 11 carries for 72 yards. 

The Sylvania Rams will travel to take on East Limestone on Friday. The Plainview Bears will also be on the road as they travel to take on the Collinsville Panthers.
