PIEDMONT, Ala. — On Friday, the Plainview Bears fell 46-7 to the defending Class 3A State Champion Piedmont Bulldogs in the second round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Playoffs.
The Bulldogs started their plan of attack early. The Bulldogs scored twice in the first quarter. Piedmont then added a field goal and a touchdown in the second quarter, to go into the half with the 24-0 lead.
After the half, Piedmont scored two more touchdowns in the third to take the 37-0 lead over the Plainview Bears.
Plainview put their only points on the board with 6:51 remaining in the game. Brody McCurdy scored on a 30-yard rushing touchdown. The extra point by Jacob Yates, made the score 37-7. Piedmont scored on an 81-yard kickoff return with 6:33 remaining in the game to make the final score, 46-7, and to advance to the third round of the AHSAA playoffs.
Plainview had rushing 151 yards for the night. Jathan Underwood led the Bears with 47 yards on seven carries. Brody McCurdy had 39 yards on seven carries.
Piedmont finished the game with a total of 398 yards. They will face Saks in the third round of playoffs.
Plainview finishes the season with a 10-2 record. The Bears have not advanced to the second round of AHSAA playoffs since 2014.
