BOAZ, Ala. —The Boaz Pirates defeated the Crossville Lions, 48-7 in Class 5A, Region 7 play on Friday night.
Boaz put the first points on the board, with 7:06 remaining in the second quarter, scoring on a quarterback keeper from 2-yards out. The extra point attempt was good, giving the Pirates the 7-0 advantage. Crossville fumbled the ball on the second play of their possession. Two plays later, Boaz brought it in for the touchdown with 5:57 remaining in the first half. The extra point was good, advancing the Boaz lead to 14-0, After forcing the Lions to punt, two plays later, the Pirates scored on a 30-yard touchdown connection from Carter Lambert to Keaton Kennedy with 3:09 remaining in the first half. The point-after attempt was unsuccessful but gave the Pirates the 20-0 lead. After another forced punt, Boaz scored on a 15-yard run with only :49 remaining in the first half. The extra point attempt was good, giving the Pirates the 27-0 advantage over the Lions, at the close of the first half.
With 3:40 remaining in the third quarter, the Pirates scored on a 3-yard run into the endzone. The point-after attempt was good, giving the Pirates the 34-0 advantage. The Pirates took the 42-0 lead over Crossville after scoring on a 29-yard run and successful two-point conversion.
Crossville scored in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard run by Kolby Lesley. The extra point attempt by Quentin Chapman was good, making the score 42-7. Boaz scored the final points of the night with a 63-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful, making the final score, 48-7.
KADIN BENNEFIELD, BOAZ managed 162 yards rushing on 12 carries with three touchdowns (5, 3, 29 yards) in a 48-7 win over Crossville. The senior runningback now has 10 rushing touchdowns in the first three games this season.
Crossville will host the Guntersville Wildcats on Friday night.
