Geraldine GOTW Preview

Is anything more impressive to watch than a team that truly cares about and believes in one another?

A team that when you bring in three star players for an interview they point to each other as the best player on the team, or the team leader, or the X-factor.

A team that truly believes that if they play their game, they will always be the best team on the field.

A team that has no fear of an opponent, only the fear of letting one another down.

The Geraldine Bulldogs exude this feeling of unity. As much of a team as the Bulldogs are, they aren't without obvious standout players.

Marcus Davis #6

  Weight:      205                      40 Time:     4.5

Position:      RB/DB                     Bench:     315

   Height:      6'0''                          Squat:     495

A legitimate D-I prospect, Davis might be the most naturally gifted runningback in DeKalb County. With vision, feet, and a feel for the position, the Junior described by Plainview Coach Dale Pruitt as "a true I back that you don't see very often around here", has quickly made his way onto our watchlist as a Southern Torch Player of the Year candidate.

On the defensive side of the ball, Davis is a linebacker playing safety in the mold of former Miami Safety Ed Reed.

"Linebacker is my natural position, but, playing Safety is like I'm getting to hit someone with a 5 yard head start."

The Bulldogs still have a host of unfamiliar faces and have yet to be tested in the air. It is a given that the Plainview Bears will try to up the tempo of the game this week in order to exploit the Bulldogs untested depth all over the field. Geraldine will look to rely on the leadership of Davis, Devan Totherow (SR), Jake Maddox (JR), and Garret Mitchell (SR) heavily on both sides of the ball.

Totherow isn't basking in the week 1 victory and is looking for the Bulldogs to build on their momentum heading in to week 2 in this massive 3A, Region 6 clash.

"I felt before the season that if we were 2-0 after week 2 that we could go 10-0. I still truly believe that. Nobody wants to say it, but the region could be decided on Friday night."

- Devan Totherow

Jake Maddox looked incredible in Week 1 against Fyffe, and is as much of a threat on the ground as he is in the air. Will he be able to break containment and turn busted plays in to big gains this week? Will his body be able to withstand the toll of having to run the offense and cover the up tempo Plainview passing game?

"Our conditioning has improved dramatically from this time last year. It's not a new program, it's just more reps in the old program and last week it definitely showed."

- Jake Maddox

The weather forecast for kickoff is 74 and sunny. So, any hope of another slow track this week is out. Can the Bulldogs team unit step up again and grab the reins of 3A, Region 6? We'll see...

Gameplan: The Bulldogs must exert their physical dominance and grind the pace of the game down.
