Collinsville Dominates Asbury

COLLINSVILLE, Ala. — The Collinsville Panthers defeated the Asbury Rams, 40-19 on Friday night.

Collinsville came out strong and controlled the first half. The Panthers scored on all five possessions in the first half and amassed 254 yards of offense while holding Asbury to 64 yards. They forced two turnovers and a safety. The Panthers led at the half with 40-0.

In the first quarter with 10:40 on the board, Deon Winsley charged down the field on a 28-yard run for the score. Carmen Barkley brought in the two-point conversion, on a pass from Dalton Hughes, making the score 8-0. Hughes scored on a 4-yard run with 3:43 remaining in the first. The kick by John Vargas gave the Panthers the early 15-0 advantage.

With 11:57 remaining in the second quarter, Malachi Orr scored on an 8-yard run. The two-point conversion failed but gave the Panthers the 21-0 lead. Winsley brought it in from 22-yards out, for his second touchdown of the night, with 8:48 remaining in the first half. The kick by Vargas, made the score 28-0. Collinsville scored a Safety after the ruling on the field was intentional downing pass in the endzone by Asbury, going up 30-0 with 7:20 remaining in the second quarter. Luke Henderson cashed in on the Collinsville touchdowns, scoring on a 16-yard stampede down the field, with 6:19 remaining in the first half. The kick by Vargas increased the Collinsville lead to 37-0. With 1:51 remaining in the opening half, Vargas nailed a 27-yard field goal to go into intermission, with the 40-0 security blanket. 

The second half of the game was shortened and a running clock was used. Asbury was able to score three touchdowns to bring the final score to 40-19. 

Collinsville was led by Deon Winsley with 72 yards on 8 attempts and two touchdowns. Malachi Orr had a touchdown and 51 yards rushing. Dalton Hughes passed for 31 yards and rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown. Hughes also had a fumble recovery. Keaton Deboard had an interception for the night and rushed for 33 yards.

“It feels good to win...I’m proud of the seniors who took some extra responsibility this week,” stated Collinsville Head Football Coach Daniel Garrett.

Collinsville will travel to take on the Geraldine Bulldogs on Friday.
