Bears Cage the Eagles

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Plainview Bears defeated the Vinemont Eagles, 41-14 in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Playoffs.

The Bears attacked first on a 23-yard touchdown by Andrew Hall with 7:34 remaining in the first quarter. The Bears went for two but were unsuccessful.  

With 9:00 remaining in the second quarter, the Bears tacked on another touchdown with a 33-yard, up the middle touchdown by Marcos Vega. The 2-point conversion failed but gave the Bears the 12-0 advantage. With 3:24 remaining in the second quarter, the Eagles scored on an 8-yard quarterback keeper. The extra-point attempt was good, to make the score 12-7.  Plainview scored with :43 remaining in the first half on a 3-yard quarterback sneak by Noah White. The 2-point conversion by Vega was good, to give the Bears the 20-7 advantage, going into halftime.  

After a 55-yard run by Vegas, White scored from 1-yard out on a quarterback sneak. The two-point conversion by Sam Crowell gave the Bears the 28-7 lead with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter. The Bears added 7 points on the board with a 33-yard run around the right end by Brody McCurdy, to make the score 35-7 at the end of the third quarter.

Vinemont started the fourth quarter, scoring on a 3-yard scamper to make the score 35-14.  With 9:22 remaining in the game, Noah White stampeded down the field for 44-yards to score for Plainview. The point-after attempt failed but gave the Bears a 41-14 win over the Vinemont Eagles. 

Marcos Vega led the Plainview Bears with 109 yards on ten carries. Noah White had 107 yards on 11 carries. 

Plainview (10-1) will travel to take on the Piedmont Bulldogs (10-1) in the second round of the AHSAA State Football Playoffs.
