Bears Attack the Bulldogs

GERALDINE, Ala. — The Plainview Bears defeated the Geraldine Bulldogs, 30-16 in Class 3A, Region 7 play on Friday night.

After receiving the ball first, Plainview was forced to punt on their first series.  The Bulldogs took possession on their own 31-yard line.  Geraldine was forced to punt on their first series as well.  Plainview took over and fumbled on their second drive, with the Bulldogs recovering on their own 38.  With 1:00 remaining in the first quarter, Cody Satterfield scored for the Bulldogs on a 15-yard run around the left end.  The point-after attempt by Jose Garcia was good.  Plainview moved the ball down the field with a 52-yard run by Marcos Vega.  Two plays later, the Bears scored on a 1-yard scamper into the endzone by Brody McCurdy,  The point-after attempt failed, giving the Bulldogs the 7-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter. 

The second quarter was a defensive battle between the teams  Geraldine took the 10-6 advantage, with:17 before remaining before the half, on a 40-yard field goal by Garcia. 

With 6:07 remaining in the third quarter,  Vega scored for the Bears, on a 67-yard rushing touchdown. McCurdy brought in the two-point conversion, taking the 14-10 advantage over the Bulldogs.  After both teams were forced to punt, Geraldine scored on an 80-yard stampede down the field with:10 remaining in the third quarter.  The PAT was not good but gave the Bulldogs the 16-14 lead.  

The Bears kicked it into full throttle during the fourth quarter.  Vega scored with 10:34 remaining in the game, as he bulldozed his way into the endzone from 46 yards out.  McCurdy took care of the two-point conversion to pad the Bears lead to 22-16.  To finish out the game, McCurdy scored on a 20-yard rushing touchdown.  He also brought in the 2-point conversion to make the final score over region rival, 30-16.

Plainview had 336 total yards for the night.  Marcos Vega led the Bears with 229 yards on 18 attempts and scored two touchdowns.  Brody McCurdy had 61 yards and two touchdowns for the night. Defensively, he had 14 tackles and one sack. Bryson Richey recorded a sack and had 11 tackles. Noah White had a 44-yard interception for Plainviw’s stellar defense. 

Geraldine had 231 total yards.  Caleb Hall led the Bulldogs running game with 122 yards on 17 attempts and one touchdown.  Cody Satterfield had 30 yards and a touchdown.  

Plainview will host the Crossville Lions in this week’s Friday night action.  Saks will travel to Geraldine on Friday night.
