Rainsville Welcomes New Officers

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Rainsville City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, April 15, 2019.

At the meeting, the Council approved the hiring of two new patrolmen: Jonathan Haney and Sean Fowler. Both officers will begin their tenure at the Rainsville Police Department on April 17 at a rate of $14.06 per hour with a 90-day probationary period. They will be reimbursed the cost of going to the Police Academy, if they sign a two-year contract with the City of Rainsville. 

Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt brought forth the need for repairs on the front porch gutter system at the DeKalb County Board of Education building in the amount of $6,870. The Council approved and the bid was awarded to Jimmy Traylor Construction. 

In other business, the Council approved:

  • The City Employee Handbook, which was adopted at Monday’s meeting
  • Set the dates for the 2019 Back to School Sales Tax Holiday
  • Granted permission to Councilmember Brandon Freeman to order lifeguard uniforms in the amount of $1,728.94
  • Purchased a lawnmower from Boykin Tractor in the amount of $12,750 to be used at the sports complex/agri-business center

The month of May has been designated as the Clean-Up Month for the City of Rainsville, from May 6 through June 1 on Saturdays. You must bring your garbage bill in order to use the City dumpster. 

Rainsville Police Chief Kevin Smith reported that the first responder’s forms for the City of Rainsville are now available.

The next meeting of the Rainsville City Council will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 beginning at 5pm with a workshop preceding at 4:15pm.
