RAINSVILLE, Ala. — At Monday night’s meeting of the Rainsville City Council, the council approved the promotion of Rainsville Police  Patrolmen Nick Knopps to Sergeant and Stephen Malone to night Sergeant. Officer Tim Devlin was named the new School Resource Officer (SRO), who would be splitting his time between Cornerstone Christian Academy, Plainview School, CandyLand Daycare, the Mission Center, and the DeKalb County Schools Technical Center.

Officer Tim Devlin was named the new School Resource Officer (SRO), who would be splitting his time between Cornerstone Christian Academy, Plainview School, CandyLand Daycare, the Mission Center, and the DeKalb County Schools Technical Center.

“Tim has a heart for children, second to none, he does the most for kids. It’s important to have an officer in schools because we don’t want this kids to grow up being afraid of law enforcement,” said Rainsville Police Chief Kevin Smith.

Patrolmen Nick Knopps and Stephen Malone had their families present to pin on their new rank. In law enforcement, much like the military, it’s customary for the family to be present to “pin” on the new rank.

When asked about the decision to promote Knopps and Malone, Chief Smith said, “I made this decision based on their leadership qualities. They’ve been the supervisors of their shift for a while now.”

“They’ve really stepped up in their leadership roles,” said Smith.
