Rainsville City Council holds last meeting of 2016 (VIDEO)

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — (Video Below) On Monday, December 19 the Rainsville City Council convened for the final workshop and meeting of 2016.

Before the meeting, the mayor, city council, and citizens met with Kevin Bernard, of TARCOG, to develop a long-term plan for growth within the city. (For more on this story, see this week's print edition

The City Council took action on the following items:

  • Approved changing the next meeting from Monday, Jan. 2 until Tuesday, Jan. 3 due to the New Year's Holiday. (Lingerfelt)
  • Voted to change City Hall hours from 8 am - 5 pm to close one hour earlier at 4 pm. (Lingerfelt)
  • Approved a pay raise of 3% for all full time city employees (Lingerfelt)
  • Voted to approve payment of invoices to LADD Engineering and SAM Construction regarding the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). (Lingerfelt)
  • Temporarily moved Police Officer David Snay from standard duty to City Hall, due to an ongoing illness. (Lingerfelt)
  • Empowered Mayor to revise a loan on the Weekly Post Building (currently the City Annex). The original terms of the loan was 6 months, while the intention was for the loan to be for 5 years. (Lingerfelt)
  • Approved Mayor to solicit bids to complete the floor in the filing room in City Hall. (Lingerfelt)
  • Voted to alter bill payment so as to not incur late fees. (Lingerfelt) 
  • Gave Rainsville Police Chief Johnny Stewart permission to purchase evidence bags for the department. (Stiefel)
  • Accepted roads at Three Grands Estates and The Pines Subdivisions as city streets. (Byrum)
  • Approved Purchase of a utility trailer for the city (Byrum)
  • Voted to purchase a new LED light bar for one of the city's firetrucks. The old light bar was burning out fuses, necessitating a new one. (Rosson)

In items not voted on, Councilman Brandon Freeman proposed an idea to begin, "Cruising the Park" in Spring 2017. The event would host food vendors and classic cars in the Rainsville City Park.

The next meeting of the Rainsville City Council will be held on January 3 (Tuesday) at 4:15 pm for the workshop and 5 pm for the regular meeting in the City Annex.
