RAINSVILLE, Ala. — Tommorrow, the Rainsville Police Department and Rainsville Fire and Rescue are teaming up to hold an event for kids in the city park from 1 - 5 pm. Many businesses and individuals in the community chipped in to make it a big event this year.

"This is our first year doing this," said Rainsville Police Chief Kevin Smith. "The event was called, 'Youth Day in the Park' in previous years, but this year we decided to team up with the Fire Department to put on the event."

The event will feature police cars, fire trucks, and the Fire Education Smoke Trailer. There will also be inflatables, a dunkin' booth, free pizza (while supplies last), and food for the adults at the Chuck Wagon.

"We'll also have a DeKalb County Forestry transport unit, a Forestry Dozer, our Junior Fire Fighter Challenge Course, and some great door prizes," said Rainsville Fire Chief Willimac Wright.

A Police Department vs. Fire Department Water Ballon fight will also be held.

Rainsville Police Chief Kevin Smith explained that the event is part of efforts to promote a positive image of fist responders among the youth of the area.

“Much of our youth grow up with a fear of people in authority, and this leads to a distrust when they become young adults,” said Chief Smith. "We also decided to bring our friends at the Fire Department in on the event this year because much like interactions with police officers, when children interact with fire fighters during an emergency it can be scary."

"The kids can get out here and have fun, while also learning about what we do," said Smith.
