FORT PAYNE, Ala. — The Fort Payne City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 17.

At the meeting, the Council discussed the need for a new “retro” sign for the DeKalb Theatre after the new year. The cost of repairs to the current sign would outweigh that of the new sign.

The Council also discussed plans for a new sports complex to accommodate more fields for tournaments. The Council decided to hold a work session on January 14, 2020 at 11am to go over the details of the new complex.

Resolutions Passed:

  • 2019-45, declaring a certain Police Department vehicle surplus (K5 military vehicle)
  • 2019-46, authorizing the City’s enrollment in the Alabama First Responders Benefits Association as required by Act 2019-361

In the new business, the Council:

  • Set the date of January 21, 2020 as the date of a public hearing to receive comments for or against a proposed un-open alley vacation just south of the Edward Jones office at Gault and 7th Street N
  • Set the date of January 21, 2020 as the date of a public hearing to receive comments for or against the proposed re-zoning of approximately ten acres of farmland on Airport Road just south of GH Metal Solutions from Rural Farm to M-1 (light industrial)
  • Authorized the posting of a nuisance location for numerous safety and fire code violations
  • Authorized annual bids for fuel, materials, services, etc.

The next meeting of the Fort Payne City Council will be held on Tuesday, January 7 at 12pm at Fort Payne City Council.
