ABOUT TIME: Alabama Governor Robert Bentley resigns

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Amid scandals revolving around his relationship with former Chief of Staff, Rebecca Caldwell-Mason, Governor Robert Bentley resigned this afternoon.

Lawmakers were expected to start impeachment procedures next week, and the Attorney General's Office had just wrapped a revealing investigation. In a surprise twist of events, the governor was booked into the Montgomery County jail on two misdemeanor charges related to campaign finance violations.

Lt. Governor Kay Ivery is expected to be sworn is as the acting governor.
