Ledbetter Leading the State House to Historic Tax Increase

By Staff Reports

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — On Friday, the Alabama House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Rebuild Alabama Act by a margin of 83-20. Before becoming law, the Act must be approved by the Senate and the Governor, who called the special session and has asked the legislature to approve the gas tax hike.

If passed, the Rebuild Alabama Act would raise fuel taxes 10 cents per gallon over the next three years and include additional new tax measures such as annual automobile tags.

All local representatives from the Greater DeKalb County area voted in favor of the measure, with the exception of Rep. Tommy Hanes (R-Scottsboro).

The Senate is expected is take up the bill on Monday.
