Fort Payne Names New Principal

FORT PAYNE, Alabama-- The Fort Payne Board of Education voted on Thursday to promote Patrick Barnes as the new Fort Payne High School principal. 

Former Principal Brian Jett left the vacancy when he succeeded retiring Superintendent Jim Cunningham. 

Barnes was one of sixteen applicants for the position.  After the field was narrowed to five finalists, Barnes was considered as the top choice for Principal.  

During their regular meeting, the Fort Payne School Board also approved the following:

Contracts:

  • Brian Jett, Superintendent
  • Fort Payne Middle School Principal Shane Bryd 
  •  Jennifer List who will be the Principal of the new Little Ridge Intermediate School (LRIS)

Resignations:

  • Sarah Blackwell-Pre K aide at WVES
  • Jeff  Boatwright-Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach
  • Andrew Isbell-Coach and Social Studies Teacher at FPHS
  • Tasha Denton-System wide Special Education Teacher

Transfers:

  • Jeri Weatherly from WAES to FPHS as guidance counselor/secretary,
  •  Kelly Evans as office aide at WVES to school secretary at LRIS
  • Chris Long, from full-time bus driver to part-time 

New Hires and Placements:

  • Mark Owens, Tamara Campton and Caleb Henshaw as bus drivers
  • Caleb Henshaw- JV Girls and Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach 
  • Chris Boggs-General Social Science teacher at Fort Payne High School
  • Taylor Sparks- 5th grade at LRIS
  • Kelsy Blackwell-3rd grade at LRIS
  • Hannah Carden and Katherine Baker-Pre-K aides at WVES
  • Ashtian Smith- Secretary.Book Keeper for Child Nutrition/Transportation Program
  • Martha Gamble/Vicki Wofford-CNP Workers
  • Rhonda Tate-System wide SPE Teacher
  • Alexandra Lopez-System wide English language aide

In other business, the Board also took the following actions:

  • Made additions to the substitute teacher list
  • Created the following positions:
    • CNP cashier at LRIS
    • CNP part time data entry clerk
    • teacher/tutor K-6 certified and secondary math

 reading and English language arts 

  • EDP teacher at LRIS
  • Math resource teacher at LRIS 
  • Approved student/parent information including the Code of Conduct, student handbooks, Virtual Plan, Coaches and Athletic Handbooks, athletics emergency plan, extended day program 
  • Awarded the following bids:
    • Fresh produce from Forestwood Farm, Inc
    • Coca-Cola Bottling United
    • Mayfield Dairy Farms
    • Cedar Bluff Oil Company
  • Salary supplements for Transportation/CNP, Secretary/Bookkeeper positions
  • Increased the Extended Day tuition to $50 for two children and $70 for three children.  A single students tuition will remain at $30
  • Declared a school bus and various technology equipment as surplus
  • Set budget hearings for August 24 at 5 p.m. and August 26 at 5:30 p.m.

The next meeting of the Fort Payne Board of Education will be held on August 26 at 6 p.m.
