FORT PAYNE, Ala. — Several DeKalb County roads have been impacted and forcibly closed due to the large amount of rainfall we accumulated in the last week.

According to County Engineer Ben Luther, County Road 835, also known as Old Highway 35, will be closed for a minimum of several months. Luther said that the reports stating that a gas leak caused the closure were incorrect.

Luther stated that the sliding of the road did cause a pipe to leak, but was not the initial reason that CR835 closed.

The County Engineer's Department is set to get together with all local utilities that are involved to come up with a plan of action next week.

The DeKalb County Emergency Agency also reported that Tutwiler Gap, County Road 604 (Wade's Gap) and several bridges (County Road 39, 386) were closed. Damage will be assessed once the water has receded.
