FYFFE, Ala. — The Fyffe Red Devils defeated the Ranburne Bulldogs, 38-7 in the second round of the Class 2A Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Playoffs on Friday night.
The Red Devils attacked early and often against Ranburne. With 9:53 remaining in the first, Ike Rowell scored on a 51-yard touchdown to take the early 6-0 lead. With 4:48 remaining in the first, Ike Rowell scored again on a 21-yard run. The two-point conversion failed but gave the Red Devils the 12-0 advantage. Zach Pryon brought one in from 15 yards to score. The 2-point conversion was good, making the score 20-0.
With 4:48 remaining in the second, Pyron scored on a 4-yard quarterback keeper. The 2-point conversion made the score 28-0. With :26 remaining in the first half, Brody Dalton kicked a 25-yard field goal to go up 31-0.
The Red Devils scored their final touchdown of the night with 8:38 remaining in the third, on a 6-yard stampede by Rowell to take the 38-0 lead. With 8:45 remaining in the game, Ranburne put their only points on the board, with a dash into the endzone, making the final 38-7.
Rowell finished the night with 140 yards on 13 carries for the Red Devils.
“We were proud of our team for the effort and focus in our Ranburn game. We got off to a good start and we finished strong” said Fyffe Head Coach Paul Benefield. “There is no time to feel good at the moment because we have an undefeated Red Bay coming to town and we better buy new mouthpieces because when the quarterfinals start, everyone is really good. There are eight teams left out of the 60 that started the season.”
The undefeated Fyffe Red Devils (12-0) will face the undefeated Red Bay Tigers (12-0) in the third round of the AHSAA playoffs on Friday night.
