WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Congressman Robert Aderholt recently announced that significant federal funds have been awarded through to the cities of Fyffe and Henagar to help pay for equipment upgrades and improvements to the fire departments in each town.

“I am very pleased to announce that the Fyffe and Henagar Fire Departments will both be receiving grants,” Aderholt said. “While I know everyone in these departments is excited to hear about these grants, they, like myself, realize it will be the people in these two communities who will benefit.”

The Fyffe grant is in the amount of $147,620 and will be used for vehicle acquisition.   The Henagar grant is in the amount of $40,778.  These funds will be used in the daily operations of the department.

The funds were made available through Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG). AFG helps firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

“This money will be used to help protect life and property for years to come in DeKalb County,” Aderholt said.  “I am glad that our office was able to offer assistance in helping obtain these grants and look forward to seeing how they will help these communities.”
