FORT PAYNE, Ala. — (Update: This event was cancelled on Friday, January 12th due to the potential for Winter Weather during time frame of the drill and the ongoing flu emergency.) According to a statement on social media from Fort Payne City Schools and DeKalb County Schools, there will be a “Emergency Mock Event” the week of January 15th – 19th. The information was released to avoid, “undue panic.”

The event will take place at one of the schools in the City of Fort Payne or one of the county schools. The exact school and date will not be released to help first responders be ready to go to any school where an emergency may take place in our area, and will help local agencies work as a team if such a real life event took place.

Statement released by Fort Payne City Schools a short while ago:

There will be an Emergency Mock Event Coming Week of January 15th-19th: This information is provided to make our Parents, Students and Teachers aware of the Safety Exercise/Mock Event to avoid undue panic.

“This is a message from the desk of Jim Cunningham, Superintendent of Fort Payne City Schools. Fort Payne City Schools in conjunction with DeKalb County Schools, DeKalb County EMA and First responders will be conducting a safety Exercise/Mock Event at one of the DeKalb County Schools during the week of January 15 – 19, 2018. The purpose of this exercise is to allow us to better practice responding to various emergency situations.

Due to the nature of the Safety Exercise/Mock Event, the exact date will not be made public. This information is provided to make our Parents, Students and Teachers aware of the Safety Exercise/Mock Event to avoid undue panic.

Once again there will be a joint action Safety Exercise/Mock Event between DeKalb County and Fort Payne City Schools as well as the DeKalb EMA and First Responders at one of the DeKalb County Schools during the week of January 15 through 19, 2018.

Again, this is only a practice staged exercise.
