By Staff Reports

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — According to the Fort Payne Police Department:

The Fort Payne Police Departments Detective Division continues to investigate leads on a home invasion that occurred on the west side of town on May 10, 2018. There have been rumors circulating on social media that more crimes of this nature have occurred in the city limits of Fort Payne since that date. I want to let you, the citizens of our town, know that we have not received any more reports of these type incidents. The following are a few tips to improve your personal safety around your home.

  • LOCK ALL YOUR DOORS ENTRY, GARAGE AND YOUR CAR, EVERYONE THAT LOVES YOU SHOULD HAVE A KEY (IF YOU NEED NEW LOCKS AND KEYS, BUY THEM)
  • IF YOU HAVE AN ALARM SYSTEM USE IT, EVEN IF YOU ARE AT HOME
  • IF YOU HAVE CAMERAS MAKE SURE THEY WORK AND RECORD
  • MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF YOUR WINDOWS ARE SECURE
  • USE L.E.D. OUTSIDE LIGHTING (MOTION DETECTOR) IF YOU ARE NOT AT HOME ESPECIALLY IN DARK SPOTS.
  • REMOVE OVERGROWN BUSHES THAT MAKE GOOD HIDING PLACES
  • IF A STRANGE VEHICLE OR A SUSPICIOUS PERSON IS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD CALL THE NEAREST POLICE DEPARTMENT (256-845-1414)
  • UTILIZE YOUR NEIGHBORS THEY ARE THE BEST ALARM MONEY CAN BUY
  • STREET LIGHTS LIGHT UP THE STREET IF YOU NEED A SECURITY LIGHT CONTACT FORT PAYNE IMPROVEMENT AUTHORITY TO CHECK THE COST
