Colt Locklear and Haley Tooley will be representing Fort Payne High School at the National 3-position Air Rifle Championship at Camp Perry, Ohio.

By Staff Reports

FORT PAYNE, Ala.— Lt. Col. John M. Walker, U.S. Army, Ret., Commander of the Fort Payne High School (FPHS) Junior ROTC recently announced that their group will be competing at the 3-Position Air Rifle (3PAR) Sporter-class Junior Olympics on June 27 and the 3PAR Sporter-class Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Nationals on June 28, at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center at Camp Perry, Ohio.

FPHS students Colt Locklear and Haley Tooley qualified for the event, a milestone for the school and the Junior ROTC program. Walker said the students deserve to be commended for their accomplishments and qualification to compete in these prestigious events. Locklear and Tooley are the only participants from Alabama and 2 of only 310 sporter-class participants in the country invited to participate.

According to the schedule on the CMP website, Tooley and Locklear will be firing on Relay A Monday from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Walker said that although they cannot carry a large contingent with them to cheer them on, anyone can watch the event live on the CMP website.

“Colt will be on point #35 and Haley will be on point #3,” Walker said. “Final results will be posted by the end of each day at the “Results” link. Please tune-in and see how Haley and Colt are faring. The team to beat, in my opinion, is Nation Ford Marine Corps JROTC out of South Carolina. I met their coach at the CMP Regionals and have already picked his brain for a number of ideas to improve our practices.”

Southern Torch joins Col. Walker and Fort Payne High School in wishing good luck and straight shooting to Colt and Haley!
