Fort Payne Police arrest homeowner after breaking up large graduation party

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — On Saturday night May 27th reports were received about an illegal open house party at a residence on Fruit Farm Road.  Fort Payne Police officers along with assistance from DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene to find heavy traffic blocking both sides of the lanes. In the backyard of the residence was a large gathering of approximately 100 people.  

Identities of the patrons were checked and most were found to be under the age of 21.  Contact was made with the homeowner Veronica Mejia, who stated she was hosting a graduation party for her son and it got out of hand. Mejia was charges with Hosting an Illegal Open House Party and Allowing Minors to Consume Alcoholic Beverages.  

A total of 30 people were arrested on site ranging in age from 15 to 20 years old.  This is the largest open house party to date, this type of activity will certainly not be tolerated. Mrs. Mejia is a local business owner.
