RAINSVILLE, Ala. — To start the October 16, 2017 Rainsville City Council workshop, Police Chief Kevin Smith opened with the prayer and Councilman Derek Rosson lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

During the workshop, Citizen Sonjia Pittman addressed the council on the Maple Avenue road paving situation, and discusses the names tied to the development of the property. After the conclusion of her remarks, a representative from the Rainsville Industrial Development Board updated on the progress of the DeKalb County School's new bus garage which will be built in the industrial park.

City Engineer Sam Phillips also announced the recently submitted bids for the road paving projects within the city.

Items addressed in the meeting: 

  • Passed a resolution to move forward with an Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) grant (Resolution 10-16-2017).
  • Approved sending City Clerk Kelly Frazier to a Human Resources Conference on October 19 & 20.
  • Approved the hiring of Cody Roberts as a new fire fighter for the fire department.
  • Accepted Wiregrass Contruction's low bid for the road paving project and empowered the mayor to enter into a contract with the company. ($402,993.72.)
  • Hired Kasmir Incorporated for $1813.00 calibrate the flow on the meters at the sewer plant.
  • Approved a motion to pay a land surveyor for services regarding the property adjoining the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) that the city is considering purchasing.
  • Paid monthly bills.
