RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The Rainsville City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on December 21, 2020.

The Council approved a 2% Cost of Living Raise for City Employees.  The Council also passed Resolution 12-21-2020 C that provided RSA Tier I Benefits to Tier II Plan Members. 

The Council went into Executive Session for nearly an hour to discuss the good name and character of a City Employee.  After the session, the Council called the meeting back to order, with no action taken against the employee.

The Council voted to suspend the rules for immediate consideration to amend Ordinance 10-15-2007 that capped the amount for a business license within the City of Rainsville,  To be in compliance with other municipalities, the Council approved the measure.

In other business, the Council approved:

• Approved an application for alcohol sales at Carter's Beverage
• Switched cell phone carriers back to Verizon which will upgrade all phones 
• Hired Dean White as a Police Officer effective 12-16-2020
• Purchased a building for the Police Department for $4,145.00 with donated funds for use at the Shooting Range
• Passed Resolution 12-21-2020 (A) which surplused (2) refrigerator boxes currently used at the firing range for storage for police department
• Purchase of (2) printer/scanners for the police department in the amount of $334.62
• Passed Resolution 12-21-2020 (B) to surplus a 1997 Mack Sanitation truck 
• Approved $923.00 for uniform and training for the Police Department
• Purchase of (10) 4-yard dumpsters from Wastequip for $6,465.00 
• Renewed the $1,000 sponsorship for the Bull Bash
• Approved a light at the entrance for Field of Dreams Sign to Laney Electric in the amount of $1,383.45
• Approved a light for the 1st Responder’s Memorial to Laney Electric in the amount of $831.00
• A street light at the intersection of Kirk/Autumn Creek. 

The next meeting of the Rainsville City Council will be held on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. with a work session beginning at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
