GERALDINE, Ala. — On Monday, the Geraldine Town Council met for an organizational meeting to swear-in the Town's new administration. The meeting was held at First Baptist Church in Geraldine to accommodate social distancing protocols.

During the meeting, Mayor Chuck Ables presented outgoing Councilman Terry Harris, who has been elected to the DeKalb County Commission, with a plaque commending him for his service. Geraldine's other outgoing Councilman Jackie Rogers was unable to attend the meeting.

The Council chose Councilman Larry Lingerfelt to continue on as Mayor Pro tempore.

During the meeting, the Council made the following decisions:

  • Suspended the rules to adopt an ordinance at which it is first read
  • Adopted Ordinance #20-11-02 setting the time and place for meetings (they will remain on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. and work sessions on the previous Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.)
  • Appointed Heath Albright to continue as Police Chief
  • Appointed Brandon Cunningham to continue as Fire Chief
  • Selected Donna Johnson to continue as Town Clerk
  • Voted to continue using Liberty Bank as the depository for Town banking
  • Appointed Lingerfelt to serve as Council representative to the Planning Commission
  • Announced the date of the Christmas Parade to be held on Saturday, December 12 at 2 p.m. with Seth Maddox as Grand Marshall
