RAINSVILLE, Ala. — On Saturday, Deputy District Attorney Scott Lloyd announced his candidacy for Circuit Judge, Place 2. Lloyd made his announcement at the monthly meeting of the DeKalb County Republican Breakfast Club.

“We need a Republican judiciary for DeKalb and Cherokee counties. My twenty-one years of legal experience, including twenty years as a Deputy District Attorney, have prepared me to serve the people of DeKalb and Cherokee counties. Today, I officially announce my candidacy for circuit judge,” said Lloyd.
“I’ve prosecuted thousands of cases, both civil and criminal cases. I know what it means to work with the victims of terrible crimes and I understand how we can better operate our court system to save taxpayers money while still ensuring that justice is served fairly and in a timely manner. After twenty years, I believe that I have developed the experience and judgement to transition from prosecutor to circuit judge,” announced Lloyd. “I have a conservative judicial philosophy. I believe that judges should interpret and administer that law as it is written. Judges should never attempt to legislate from the bench,” concluded Lloyd.
“Scott is a career prosecutor and has served the people of DeKalb and Cherokee counties with honor and integrity,” stated Rainsville Police Chief Kevin Smith. “Scott knows the law and has a passion for justice. He has always been very professional and has a great working relationship with our police department. Scott understands our judicial system inside and out and he will be an asset to our courts,” said Chief Smith.
Scott Lloyd was raised in Rainsville, AL, the son of Jimmy and Ina Lloyd. He graduated from Plainview High School before attending Auburn University. After college, Lloyd earned a law degree with honors from the University of Georgia and received the Award for Advanced Trial Advocacy. Lloyd has spent the last twenty years serving the citizens of DeKalb and Cherokee counties as Deputy District Attorney under Mike O’Dell. He has been married to his wife, Laura, for over 20 years. They have twin daughters Caroline and Sarah, who just started high school. The Lloyds are active members at Centre First United Methodist Church.
The Ninth Judicial Circuit covers DeKalb and Cherokee counties. Lloyd is running for Circuit Judge, Place 2. The seat is currently held by Democrat Judge Randall Cole, who is retiring. The Republican primary will take place on June 5, 2018.
